*James R. Cathey
*James R. Cathey joined Capt. Murphy's Company, Alabama Mounted Volunteers later called 3rd Alabama Cavalry, Company F on 6 Dec 1861 in Perry County, Alabama. He was enlisted by Capt. Samuel Jennings Murphy as a Private for 12 months.
*James took his horse to war with him. His horse was valued at $250 and his horse equipment at $20.
In Perry County, Alabama on on 18 Nov 1861 *James joined the 3 Alabama Cavalry, Company F as a Private.
He was listed on the following company muster rolls:
30 Apr to 30 June 1863
31 Oct to 31 Dec 1863 there was a note on this roll listing: absent left with
Capt McCarthys wagon train in Ga.
31 Oct 1864 this typed roll listed him as James K but since the Compiled Military Service records list him as James R, I feel that the typist misread the inital.
James moved to Tennessee after the war according to a roll made up by Capt. Cole. Filed 1905/08/16.
At this time I do not know the family of James.
