Burwell Boykin
*Burwell Boykin

     *Burwell Boykin was not in company F.  He joined Jenkins' Company, Mounted Rifles, Alabama Volunteers as a private.  Burwell enlisted from Dallas county at the age of 19.  On July 1 1862 while stationed in Shelbyville Tennessee, he received his commission as Quartermaster to Hagan.  Burwell signature appears on many of the vouchers for the 3 Alabama Regiment.

Burwell's father was William W. Boykin.  William was born in 1813 in South Carolina and moved to Dallas county, Alabama in about 1837.  Shortly there after he married Martha. Martha was born in 1816 in Georgia.

William had a farm and owned 124 slaves in 1860.

They had the following children, who were all born in Dallas county:

     F     i.     Martha Boykin was born in 1840.
     M     ii.     *Burwell Boykin was born in 1842.
     M     iii.     Thomas Boykin was born in 1844.
     M     iv.     S. F. Boykin was born in 1846.
     M     v.     William W. Boykin was born in 1848.
     M     vi.     Hunter R. Boykin was born in 1850.
