Thomas J Caldwell  or coldwell
3corp out as private?
Thomas was a 3 Corporal  when he went into service but if his rank changed durning the war, I am uncertain.  Some of the cards in his Compiled Military Service record list him as a private toward the end of the war.  I think it is possible that this is an error but I will have to check on it.

Thomas was sent to assist at the hospital in Chattanooga on 12 April 1863 and was still serving as assistant surgeon on 11 September 1863.

He was listed on the following muster rolls
18 nov  to 31 Dec 1861
30 Apr to 30 June 1863
31 oct to dec 31 1863

*Thomas J. Caldwell was born in 1838.  I do not know his family. I looked for him in Dallas county on the 1860 Federal Alabama census but I did not find him. Perhaps I will find them later.
