William Blount
*William  Blount

*William Blount joined 3rd Alabama Cavalry, Company F in Perry County, Alabama as a Private.  I am uncertain exactly when he enlisted. Apparently Boykin paid him for his military service on 8 December 1863, so he probably enlisted sometime that same year.

There is not a Compiled Military Service Record for William.  I really only have the typed Muster Roll for 31 Oct 1864 that places him in this unit and a  Alabama Confederate Service Card from the Alabama Department of Archives and History. The roll lists him as William Blount and the card lists him as William H. Blount.  I have not been able to find anything else on William H. Blount, however, I feel that it is possible that William H Blount is actually the William T Blunt  that we found attending the military school in Marion, Alabama.

This military school was then called Howard College and in 1861 and in 1862 William T. Blunt was in attandance.

There is a W. T. Blunt living in Perry County in 1860 and on the 1860 census he is in the following family

E. A. Blunt, male age 46 Broker born Virginia
M. C.,   female  age 43  wife born Alabama
W. T.,   male   age 13 born Alabama  Attending school
J. L.,   male    age 9 born Alabama  Attending school
Mary F,  female   age 6  born Alabama
Mattie,  female  age 2  born Alabama

In the school records for 1865 I found a John L Blunt.  It is possible that William and John were brothers and attended Howard College.

At this point this is really all I know.  Perhaps later more information will present  more clues for William Blount.

Microfilm cards "From an 8 x 5 card file maintained by the Alabama Department of Archives and History from the early 1900s until 1982. As staff came across information related to Alabama individuals during the American Civil War a card was created. Information on individuals exempted from military service or who served in the militia or home guard is included. If new information was discovered from another source, another card was created. Multiple cards for an individual often exist. Sources include muster rolls, governors' correspondence, veterans' censuses, manuscript collections, newspapers and pension records. Names, places and events are often inconsistently spelled."
