Andrew J Heard
*Andrew J Heard joined Capt. Murphy's Company, Alabama Mounted Volunteers later called 3rd Alabama Cavalry, Company F on 31 Dec 1861 in Perry County, Alabama.  He was enlisted by Capt. Samuel Jennings Murphy as a Private for 12 months at the age of  29.

*Andrew took his horse to war with him. His horse was valued at $300 and his horse equipment at $30.

On 18 Nov 1861 *Andrew was listed on the Company Muster Roll. Then the next month, Dec. 28, 1861, he was discharged by reason of special order #141 Hdqtrs. Dist of Alabama. For some reason Andrew was never paid.

Five months later Andrew joined the Infantry,41st Alabama Reg. Co. E. He was enlisted 30 Apr 1862 by Capt England in Marion Alabama.

*Andrew was listed on these company muster rolls for Co. E 41 Reg't Alabama Infantry:
June 30 to July 31, 1862 He was last paid June 30
Nov & Dec 1862 He was last paid 31 July 1862
Jan & Feb 1863 for 3 years last paid by capt Martin 31 Dec 1862

        It looks like he was surrendered in Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, 1865 and paroled at Gainesville, Alabama on May 14, 1865.

It is interesting to note, that although Andrew and his brother-in-law James Brown both served in Company F, Andrew had left the unit by the time James joined.


     *Andrew's father was Charles Heard. And he was born in 1791 in Georgia. Charles married Sarah about 1822. Sarah was born in 1795 in South Carolina.

Their children were:

      M     i.     Samuel A. Heard was born in 1823 in Alabama .
      M     ii.     William C. Heard was born in 1828 in Alabama .
      M     iii.     Isaac M. Heard was born in 1830 in Alabama .
       M     iv.     *Andrew J. Heard was born in 1832 in Alabama .   
       F     v.     Sarah Heard was born in 1838 in Alabama .


*Andrew married Mary Jane Brown daughter of Joseph Brown and Sarah Elizabeth Holley on 24 Dec 1857 in Perry County, Alabama. Mary was born in 1836 in Alabama . The year before the war started they were farming in Perry County and they had no children at that time.  His personal property valued $4189.
