Francis Denson
*Francis S. Denson

*Francis S. Denson joined  the 3rd Alabama Cavalry, Company F  on 19 May 1862 in Choctaw County, Alabama at the age of 34 years.  He was enlisted by Capt. Samuel Jennings Murphy as a private for 12 months.

I have found his name also listed as F. S. Denson,  Francis S. Dinston and F. S. Deason.

Francis was listed on the following Company Muster rolls:
30 Apr to 30 June 1863
31 Oct to Dec 31  1863
31 Oct 1864

He was Paroled at Charlotte, North Carolina May 3, 1865.
And his name appears on a roll of commanding officers, Staff Officers,
and officers and men on special duty, present at the Head Quarters of Allen's
Cavalry Division CSA,  May 3, 1865, paroled in accordance with the
terms of a Military Convention, entered into on the 26th day of April, 1865,
between General Joseph E. Johnston, Commanding Confederate Army, and
Major General W T Sherman, Commanding
United States Army in North Carolina.

Francis S. Denson was born in 1826 in Alabama. In 1860 he was living in Choctaw County, Alabama and employed as a planter.  He had a real estate value of $16,000 and a value of personal property of $17,000.

On the 1860 census Francis had two males living in the same house with him,
G. R. Denson age 42 and Eugene Denson age 16.   Though I have not been able to locate anything else on Francis it is possible that G. R. first name was Greene.  In the 1870 census Greene is listed as an idiot.
