*John W. Deshago




     *John W. Deshago was one of our valiant soldiers that died
                                 in the battle of Perryville, Kentucky,Oct. 8, 1862.

He was also listed by the name John W. Deshazo and J. W. Deshaza.


John  joined Capt. Murphy's Company, Alabama Mounted Volunteers later called 3rd Alabama Cavalry, Company F in Perry County, Alabama on  18 Nov 1861 at the age of 31.   He was enlisted by Capt. Murphy as a Second Sergent for a period of 12 months.  



John took his horse to war with him. His horse was valued at $150 and horse equipment at $15.


John appeared on only one company muster roll:
18 Nov to 31 Dec 1861

Sadly he died 11 months later.  He left behind a wife and atleast one child.

     *John W. Deshago was born in 1830 in Alabama.

In the 1850 in  Shelby county,  John, age 20 is living with Lewis Deshazo age 48.

I think that this is his father and if that is so then his mother would be Mary.

And his siblings would be:

              Columbus  born 1839
              Albert born 1841
          Ducallen born 1843
             Afred born 1845
              Joseph born 1850


*John married Harriett S. Mahan on 13 Dec 1856 in Perry County, Alabama.  They had a daughter

     Emma J Deshago, born in 1858 in Perry County, Alabama.

John was counted in a census in 1860 in Perry County, Alabama. His real estate property was valued  $1,100 and his personal property was valued at $4,297.    On that census he was list as being a farmer.
